ECB Umpire Courses 2026 Season

ECB Umpiring Course.

This course is designed to give new umpires the key skills, knowledge and confidence to stand as an umpire in cricket. No prior experience of umpiring in cricket is required before attending the course.

The ECB Education Teams have developed new umpire courses for everyone involved in and around cricket to have the opportunity to become a cricket umpire.

Parents, young leaders, volunteers, players, and everyone in between have the opportunity to book on to the new look course.

The Umpire Courses are developed to engage a new audience of umpires. They are based on a blended learning concept with both an e-learning module and a practical face-to-face day.

ECB ACO Umpire Development Course

This course is aimed at those who have completed the ECB introduction to umpiring course or who have some umpiring or cricketing experience and wish to improve, update or refresh their knowledge and skills base.

Experienced Umpire Progression Course

This course is designed for experienced umpires who wish to broaden their knowledge and develop their umpiring skills regardless of whether they aspire to Premier League cricket and progress their qualifications or just simply to be the best umpire that they can be

What Comes Next?

Each County will offer many development opportunity including  Are You Ready to Call Play which was developed by ECB ACO to help umpires coming straight from a training course to officiating in their first few competitive games.

It may also be a useful revision exercise following a long winter layoff.

There are also a number of self help CPD modules that you can use at any time.

ECB OnLine Umpiring Course.

 This course is aimed at those who are interested to know more about the key laws of the game and how to umpire, without committing (yet) to the formal ECB Umpire Course. Completion of this learning does NOT grant access to the ECB Umpire Progression Pathway and completing the full ECB Umpire Course is required to join the pathway.
